Month: April 2019
We have a committee meeting on the 30th, no regular club meeting that Tuesday.
Next regular club meeting is on 7th May 2019, with the judging of the 2nd Open. Guests welcome as always!
Field Trip is 5th May 2019, topic is ‘Autumn Colors’.
Location is Botanical Gardens, we meet at the ILEX Cafe in the Gardens at 10am, but there is nothing to stop you from turning up earlier and catch the worm. In camera of course.
Another amazing club night! Nathan Pettigrew joined us tonight to give a talk about his adventures. He is not a photographer, but he showed us amazing images and videos of our NZ water wildlife he experienced when out on the ocean with his Kayak. He has also a lot to offer when you are after some beautiful carving work.

For all the people who were not at our Tuesday evening meeting yesterday, you missed something!
We had the honor and pleasure to have Scott Fowler visiting us and sharing his images, vision and pearls of photography wisdom with us. His unique and engaging way to present makes you want to grab your camera straight away and start exploring your inner child, to get rid of ‘Adultism’, as he coined it.
Well done, Scott, for a great evening of photography, and thanks for coming to our club!

We had our car rally last weekend, organized by John Hoeben (thank you, John!). The weather was a bit challenging for the tasks, as we had to use a maximum of 20 images (like in the old film days) to come up with 12 (13 with the self portrait) images for the 12 tasks. There was not much room for error. I blasted one at the skater park and then some I think with the waterfowl and ‘movement’ tasks. Bloody hard to get it right first time if something is moving! We digital photographers are so used to continuously shooting hundreds of images to select the best one afterwards.
It was a challenge and it was fun and I learned something about me and my camera. Who won the challenge? I don’t know yet, but Guy won it two times in a row the last two years, and he tried to distract me while I was taking my future award winning flower image, so he tried hard to win it a third time! 🙂
We also had the pleasure to find out that there was a tree climbing championship going on near our meeting point in the Botanical Gardens, that was a source of some images. The car rally brought me to places I haven’t visited before and let me experience world class competitions in a sport I didn’t even know it exists, and it was quite exciting to watch!
Our previous website design was a couple of years old, and the content was a bit difficult to manage, so we now switched to a CMS (WordPress) to simplify creating current content. That means we can now post new articles more frequently. Stay tuned!
