The 2011 National Photojournalism
Competition
This year we saw an increase in digital images being presented
for competition, a decline in prints and sadly not enough
slides to use for competition. I feel we will have to consider
discontinuing the slides next year if there is not enough
interest amongst slide workers.
We also experienced an increase in the number of entries from
other parts of the county who haven’t entered before
which is really encouraging and made it really interesting.
The Judges,
PSNZ President Ron Parry, PSNZ Councilor Murry Cave and Gilbert
Wealleans from Mainland Press Christchurch, did a fabulous
job, pausing only to catch their breath as a 4.2 earthquake
rumbled through the building.
After a great deal of
deliberation they arrived at their final decision, choosing
a thought provoking image showing the plight of the poor and
destitute here in New Zealand as the overall winning image.
There was a successful
showing of the National PJ Competition entries held at the
New Brighton Photographic Club rooms Tuesday the 30th August
and all prints will now be returned to their authors with
a copy of the catalogue. Note, we will not have the entries
on display this year.
